Does it really take that long to wood chip brush and large branches?

if your wood chipper has an intake 6 inches wide I doubt very much that it will take 5 inch branches the maximum diameter would probably be an inch maybe an inch and a half . To chip a branch 1 1/2 inces thick will probably take about a minute a foot but it may cause the motor to overheat and cut out if it is continually chipping that kind of thickness. Don't forget the intake is only six inches wide because trees and bushes rarely grow with a single straight stem so the intake allows for the rough trimming of branches and the feeding of a single stem with lots of small offshoots.If you try and put anything larger than 11/2 inches in your chipper it will probably jam and may burn out
